Brake System
Locomotive brake systems are safety-critical and highly regulated.
Locomotive brake systems are safety-critical and highly regulated. The air brake system controls both the locomotive's independent brakes and, through the train brake pipe, the brakes on every car in the consist. Key components include the engineer's brake valve (which controls brake application), the brake cylinders (which apply mechanical clamping force to wheel treads), and the dynamic brake system (which uses the traction motors as generators to produce retarding force during deceleration).
Supco Canada supplies aftermarket brake system components for EMD® and GE® platform locomotives — including brake valves, brake cylinders, dynamic brake regulators, bell alarms, and related parts. Our parts are supplied to OEM-interchangeable specifications and include full traceability documentation for safety-critical procurement requirements.
