Compressed Air
Compressed air is the primary medium for locomotive and train braking, as well as for operating pneumatic controls, sanders, horns, and wipers.
Compressed air is the primary medium for locomotive and train braking, as well as for operating pneumatic controls, sanders, horns, and wipers. The main air compressor — typically a two-stage reciprocating unit — is engine-driven and supplies the main reservoir at 130–140 PSI. The air is then distributed through governor-controlled valves to maintain correct main and equalising reservoir pressures throughout the operating cycle.
Supco Canada supplies complete air compressor assemblies (WBO, Gardner Denver, and 3CD types), compressor control panels, pressure governors, valves, and gauges. Individual compressor parts including pistons, rings, valve plates, inter-cooler assemblies, and lube systems are also available for workshop overhaul programs.
